La Jet Fête team had the pleasure to be invited to an evening discovery of the Portuguese island of Madeira held on the 26 of October 2017 at the Home House private members club in London.

This event, aimed at event planning and professional MICE planners, was organised by UNIQUEWORLD Global Destination Management Company (DMCs), supplier for the event industry. It introduced the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. Located in the North Atlantic Ocean close to the Moroccan coasts, the archipelago is composed of eight islands, of which only Madeira and Porto Santo are inhabited, and has plenty of wonders to offer in terms of activities, nature and food.

The Tourism Board of Madeira (link: http://www.visitmadeira.pt/en-gb/homepage?AreaId=16) introduced the evening by showing us a video presentation of the Porto Santo and Madeira islands:

The guests amazement was far from over, since it was the Belmond Reid’s Palace (link: https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/portugal/madeira/belmond-reids-palace/) turn to introduce itself. The magnificent venue, which opened its doors in 1891 and underwent a €8,5 million renovation in 2006, was the first hotel to be built in Madeira Island. It offers different categories of rooms, including a suite decorated for Winston Churchill in person/himself and named after him, and several services – spa, subtropical gardens and even a Michelin star restaurant!

The Belmond Reid’s Palace is the ultimate venue for your private events: La Jet Fête would be more than pleased to organise the incentive travel for your team, a meeting with your collaborators or your destination wedding there!

Last but not least, Abreu Portugal DMC (link: http://www.dmcportugal.abreu.pt/Home-27589.aspx) closed the discovery evening by presenting a non-exhaustive list of all the amazing activities you can do in the archipelago:

  • Visit the uninhabited islands of the archipelago and enjoy peaceful hidden beaches,
  • Taste the local food, wines and spirits and visit its colourful markets,
  • Enjoy New Year’s Eve or June’s impressive fireworks displays (the 2006’s New Year’s Eve fireworks was even designated the largest fireworks show in the world by the Guinness World Records),
  • Take a tour at the Sacred Arts and Contemporary Art Museums,
  • Have fun doing the ‘Monte sledge’, a traditional toboggan run,
  • Do sports: diving or snorkelling, climbing, kayaking, golfing, hiking, caving, paddling, swimming, paragliding, canyoning…

And so much more!

In the meantime, we had the chance to taste an assortment of Madeira traditional food inspired canapés, putting tuna and avocado at the heart of the finest dishes. We also enjoyed the excellent Madeira wine, as well as the Sangaree cocktail, which eased the disappointment of not winning one of the prizes inclusive of transportation, tours, spa, dinner and two nights stay at the Belmond Ried’s Palace!
