Setting a wedding budget for destination weddings and UK weddings
Setting a wedding budget for destination weddings and UK weddings

There are different ways to determine your wedding budget, whether it is a destination wedding or a London wedding. We’ve listed some of three popular approaches we take to determine our client’s budget.

How much are you willing to spend?

Ultimately working through this helps determine the budget. However, we still have a number of couples who are unsure of how to set their budget, they would say they don’t have a budget and that we ought to simply provide them with quotes. As a wedding planner, this can prove to be very difficult for us, as we have done weddings ranging from £30,000 to £200,000 so if you let us put together a quote for you, you may have a heart attack! Lol. Everyone has a figure in their mind, whether its £20,000, £50,000 or £150,000 – everyone has an idea of what their maximum spend will be. So what is the maximum you are willing to spend on the wedding? Will you be paying for your wedding on your own? Will you have contributions? If so how much? Put that all together and you have a wedding fund.

Budget vs guest numbers

Guest numbers are very key to budgets as they decide what you can do with that wedding fund, but in some instances it determines your budget.

You may have an idea of how you want your wedding to look and feel so from that we will decide the budget per head.

We normally recommend that you should you budget a min of £200 per person for weddings between 150-250 people, however this may go up or down depending on what you decide on. At La Jet Fete, as we deal with premium/luxury London weddings and destination weddings, the minimum spend per guests is usually higher than the suggested £200 per head, however we believe that the £200 per head budget is a good place to start creating your wedding.

We have a saying that things costs for a reason, so if you want your wedding to feel and look a certain way and but you don’t have the funds to cater for all of those guests, we suggest that you cut down the guest list.

An idea may be to host an engagement or post wedding party where you can provide some food and drink and keep the wedding dinner intimate and as elegant and sophisticated as you want.

It is important that you decide what are the wedding must haves aka priorities.

Where your wedding is taking place?

A lot of people seems to assume that destination wedding are cheaper than in the UK but it all depends of the country you choose.

They do come out a bit cheaper than usual because you have less guests attending. As destination wedding planners we have seen all types of scenario – ultimately we don’t believe the budget should be the reason you want to do a destination wedding. As destination weddings can cost more per person in comparison to a UK wedding. Also you need to bear in mind that destination weddings tend to be 2-3 days event.

Every wedding is unique so every budget should be.
